History
«He’s laughing with the locals at a sun-kissed morning market in Kandy, Sri Lanka… She’s in a Hudson Bay coat, in a snowy, Toronto backyard…»
This is how Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid work and live – spending much of their time apart, as independent travellers. It’s all part of the incredible path the couple takes towards creating their special brand of award-winning cook books – where food fosters friendship and, the quest for ingredients and unique recipes engages the senses and sets the stage for the unexpected.
From the mist-shrouded, terraced rice paddies of Sri Lanka to the cozy glow of a family camp-fire at their farm outside of Toronto, The Recipe Diaries chronicles the journey behind the couple’s book, Mangoes and Curry Leaves, which has been described as a «road map to one of the world’s richest and most diverse culinary regions».
The one-hour documentary is an intimate look at the people, food and flavours this unique duo encounters while tasting and testing the food of the Indian Subcontinent, everything from Sri Lankan hoppers to Gujarati thalis.
